The opulence of the French courts, the kaleidoscopic melodic genius of Telemann, stormy and impassioned sonatas by Emmanuel Bach, and much more… Passacaglia brings music of the baroque era to life with engaging and colourful programmes.
This flexible UK-based ensemble was founded 30 years ago, and is made up of leading players in their fields. They illuminate the exquisite sound world of the baroque, performing on instruments of the period: recorder, baroque flute, viola da gamba and harpsichord, and sometimes guitar, theorbo and violin too. Their performing history includes venues ranging from Brighton Pavilion to London’s Wigmore Hall, entertaining music lovers live from Limerick to Chicago.
For Passacaglia, historically informed performance is the starting point, but the excitement of musical communication is at the heart of every performance.
