New release for 2023
Spanish colour and passion abounds in this new album from Lita Manners (mezzo soprano) and Paul Thomas (classical guitar). It presents three brilliant works, the Canciones españolas antiguas of the poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, the Tres canciones españolas by Joaquin Rodrigo, and the masterful Siete canciones populares españolas by Manuel de Falla.
Lita and Paul specialise in this repertoire, having spent time in Spain absorbing the folk traditions, Flamenco, and authentic performance styles. They also performed it extensively before recording, which took place during the pandemic lock-downs of 2020:
“Lita and Paul gave a virtuoso performance of Lorca’s Canciones Españolas Antiguas. Their partnership is outstanding, the intimate combination of classical guitar and mezzo-soprano created an entirely new twist to the concert recital”
“Paul coaxes every last nuance out of the strings of his guitar and Lita’s wonderful voice sings of the tragedy and despair of the Spanish gypsies with heart-rending emotion.”
“This was a remarkable recital by two gifted musicians which lingered with me for days.”
Audio CD with extensive liner notes and full songs texts with English and French translations.
